Canopic jar of Kenenem (no cat. 35)

Canopic jar of Kenenem

The vase is tapered towards the base and has a rounded shoulder; it is closed by a lid in the form of the head of a baboon that is relevant, as there is agreement between the tutelar genius represented on the lid and the name mentioned in the inscription engraved on the body of the canopic jar. The inscription is arranged in four columns of hieroglyphics that contain a formula of protection for the contents of the jar; the text reads:
"1 - Words said by Hapi," I am your protection, of Kenenem,
2 – of the Osiris Kenenem, born of Tetherredis,
3 - son of (... ....)? I have come to be your protection.
4 - I will reunite your limbs for you in the necropolis. I have put a knot. "
The Barracco collection  has another canopic jar that belonged to the same funerary equipment (No cat. 309).
