Canopic jar of Djed-mutiu-ef-ankh

Canopic jar of Djed-mutiu-ef-ankh

The vase, tapering towards the base and with an unpronounced shoulder, shows five columns of hieroglyphics framed within a box on the front. The text contains a ritual formula, typical of the Saitic period, with the words pronounced by the goddess Isis for the protection of the contents of the jar:

“1 - Words said by Isis: I annihilate the enemy,

2 - I protect Imset who is in me. The protection of

3 – the Osiris Djed-mutiu-ef-ankh justified, the son

4 - of Unen-nefer conceived by Neith-iker justified is the protection of

5 - Imset. The Osiris Djed-mutiu-ef-ankh justified is Imset" The hieroglyphs are carved with care and filled with black pigment.

The lid is relevant and there is in fact concordance between the lid with a human face and the tutelar genius mentioned in the inscription. The lid, made accurately, keeps a part of black pigment with which the eyes of the god Imset were decorated.

The Archaeological Museum of Parma also has the other three canopic jars of Djed-mutiu-ef-ankh (Inv. no. 189-190- 191).
