Canopic jar of Piei

Canopic jar of  the royal scribe Piei

The vase, tapering down towards its foot, has a base diametre that is greater than its opening mouth; the outer surface is polished, while the interior is opaque. The workmanship is not precise, especially in the rendering of the hieroglyphics; carved on the body are three vertical columns that show a formula of protection:
1. "Words said by Neit: link your arms
2. about what is in you. Be venerated with Imset
3. Osiris, the royal scribe, overseer of the Palace, Piei justified".
The jackal shaped lid is not relevant and can be dated to Late Period. It is made in a perfunctorily and shows traces of colour: the small and rounded ears have black streaks, the eyes are drawn and there are traces of painted decoration on the neck.
