Ushabti of Res

Ushabti of Res

Ushabti figurines, or "the respondent" in the sixth chapter of the Book of the Dead, which refers to the possibility of these figurines to become animated and respond to the deceased who he evokes to help him in the hard work that also in the afterlife requires the work of the fields. The extended formula is not shown but one finds the short version that indicates the deceased as identified with Orisis and the name Res is clearly legible. The  ushabti is characterized by the black colour on which the details are rendered in yellow:  the streaked wig, the broad necklace, the hands clasped on the chest and the vertical inscription.
